As one of the leading independent suppliers of specialist alloys, China Alloy Parts have formed close relationships with major subcontractors to the defence industry. Serving the sector for nearly 20 years, we understand the requirements needed for the specific types of defence applications.
From critical and aggressive subsea applications to structural components and fastenings, specialty alloys provide the ideal and most reliable material base for the defence sector. We understand that it can be difficult deciding which alloy is best for which application, but with our knowledge and experience, we can help you throughout the entire process.
Alloy Properties for Defence
The defence sector mainly operates in hostile environments and offshore environments which both require similar properties from alloys. Corrosion resistance is the priority when it comes to choosing a specialty metal for defence, due to the elements the material will be exposed to during application.
As well as corrosion resistant, it also needs to be wear resistant, spark resistant and dezincification resistant. High strength and durability are essential in order to maintain a stable structure and a reliable performance. Low magnetic permeability is also a desirable characteristic.
Specific Alloys for Defence
Phosphor Bronze Alloys
Phosphor bronze is a combination of copper, tin and phosphorous and withholds many of the properties required for the defence industry. The copper exhibits very good thermal and electrical conductivity and the tin brings strong durability.
One of the most versatile factors is phosphor bronze’s workability and weldability, so it can be manipulated into any shape and structure you need. With the addition of phosphorous, this is where its high resistance to certain corrosive environments and fatigue and wear comes from. As you can see, it is one of the best suited specialty alloy for defence applications.
Relevant Alloys Supplied by CSM
OFE (Oxygen-Free Electronic) or OFHC (Oxygen-Free High Thermal Conductivity) Copper is the highest purity grade of copper at 99.99%.
Inconel 625 (Alloy 625) is a nickel-chromium alloy with the addition of refractory metals columbium and molybdenum.
Inconel 718 (Alloy 718) is a well-known austenitic nickel-based super alloy which exhibits excellent tensile and impact strength, even at cryogenic temperatures.
Grade 5 Titanium Alloys have exceptionally high strength characteristics, meaning they’re very reliable under extreme conditions and can withstand temperatures up to 315°C (600°F).
Aluminium alloys are alloys in which aluminium (Al) is the predominant metal. The typical alloying elements are copper, magnesium, manganese, silicon and zinc.
With its unique mechanical and chemical properties, molybdenum is an outstanding material that can meet the most exacting requirements.
